There many things about this shoe story that makes it so special to me. 1. The shoes were bought on my Honeymoon. 2. They were bought in my most fav city in the world- New York 3. They are D’Orsay pumps one of my fav shoe styles. 4. And they are Michael Kors – a brand that was a favorite of mine at the time.
My honeymoon was one of the most magical holidays of my life. It was luxurious, romantic, adventurous and too much fun packed together in one dreamy holiday. We did Bahamas, Miami and New York over two weeks of bliss. New York in December is super cold and festive and that year was no different. Though we missed snow by a few days, I was still frozen to the bone and was having trouble standing let alone walking endlessly- a prerequisite in NYC. It was on one such chilly day that we walked into Macy’s to buy boots. This is when one of the sweetest moments from my honeymoon happened.
It’s true when they say; it’s the small things that make a relationship special. If you have been to Macy’s shoe section you would know that it’s huge and stocks a large number of footwear brands and you have to really move around to try them on. You do get an assistant but it was too crowded that day with the holiday shoppers and I was too cold and tired. So husband volunteered to pick out the shoes for me ☺ I reluctantly agreed because as you would know a true shoe lover would never delegate the important task of selecting her own shoes. So he sat me down on this comfortable arm chair, got me a hot coffee and went around the entire floor carefully picking out shoes for me. And I loved each and every pair that he picked. No one had ever done anything like this for me before and those moments in Macy’s will always stay with me. It’s been a few years now and he’s never gone wrong with picking out a gift for me.
These Michael Kors D’Orsay pumps were picked out by him at Macy’s that winter day in New York. I remember I tried them on and a bunch of girls who were shopping there went ‘’OMG we luuurv them’’! That pretty much sealed the deal and I bought them. Another reason I picked this pair was because the brand Michael Kors was a favorite at the time. Today the brand (especially their handbags) has become so commonplace. Luxury brands are considered aspirational and unique which is why consumers pay a premium for the label. The one mistake that MK and brands like Ralph Lauren, Juicy Couture, Tommy Hilfiger and Coach have made was opening too many outlet stores. Outlet stores sell the labels’ clothing for cheaper than department stores, giving the brands a wider audience. But once everyone has the product, it is no longer considered cool. Widespread popularity is the “kiss of death’’ for trendy fashion brands like MK.
